Duties
Requirements
A Master’s or doctoral degree in Chinese (Cantonese) Language/Linguistics or a closely-related field [e.g. MA in Second Language Teaching (Cantonese specialization)] OR a Master’s degree in a relevant field with an undergraduate degree or 18 post-graduate credits in Chinese (Cantonese); and at least 2 years’ full-time teaching experience (post-graduation) at the secondary level or above. Substantial experience in teaching Chinese (Cantonese) at the tertiary level and proven experience in the development of materials in both face-to-face and technology-mediated modes are an advantage.
Preference may be given to candidates meeting the requirements outlined above who also possess a postgraduate qualification in teaching Putonghua or English as an additional language (e.g. CELTA), as well as demonstrated teaching experience in and willingness to teach courses in the additional language of specialization as needed.
Candidates who, following attainment of their qualifying postgraduate credential, have obtained at least 4 years of relevant full-time teaching experience at the tertiary level, may be considered for appointment as Instructor I. Candidates with less immediately relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Instructor II.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
